1. It’s A Language with a Proud History of Survival
The history of the Polish language is the story of a comeback. Polish first emerged as a documented language in the 10th century. By 1500, it was fairly dominant throughout many parts of Europe (so much so that it acted as a lingua franca for many populations). That began to change at the end of the 18th century. The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was partitioned three times in the midst of geopolitical power struggles that were ongoing, and — despite foreign attempts to suppress Polish — it survived. And Poland became a sovereign state again after World War I, only to be invaded again during World War II. Since then, Poland once again reclaimed its sovereignty, and the Polish language is now characterized by its history of endurance.
2. Easier To Learn Other Slavic Languages
Speaking Polish will make it easier for you to learn other Slavic languages: in fact, West Slavic languages such as Slovak, Polish and Czech have aspects that make them similar. Especially Slovak and Polish are related languages. Those who know Polish understand the Slovak language without too much effort, at least as regards the basic phrases and, therefore, with a little effort you would have the opportunity to learn more languages. You might start with Polish first and then learn Slovak – remember that Slovakians and Poles understand each other when they speak.
3. Literature In The Original Language
This Slavic language is very musical and it is a real pleasure to listen to it but above all, knowing it, you will be able to read the works of the greatest Polish writers. You will be able to wander among the science fiction masterpieces of Lem Stanislaw, read the novels of the Nobel Literature Senkevich Henryk and the works of the most famous Pole, Karol Wojtyla, who before his pontificate was a poet, playwright and philosopher. Literary works in the original language allow us to know the spirit of the author better than any translation.
4. Traveling to Poland
Poland deserves more than a visit and after every trip you will want to return. This fascinating country has a lot to offer both in terms of landscape, with mountains and lakes of great beauty, and in terms of cities, known all over the world, such as Warsaw, Krakow and Gdansk. Knowing the language you will not have difficulty ordering your favorite dishes at the restaurant, finding the house you dream of and, above all, getting in touch with the locals: although Poles are friendly if you don’t speak the language interacting can become a problem.
